JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: FLSA STATUS: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER BOARD OF TRUSTEES FULL TIME, EXEMPT Summary of Position The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for developing the strategy to acquire and achieve the necessary community and human resources to achieve the mission of the organization and pursue its vision in the Pikes Peak Region. The CEO oversees programs, evaluates funding impacts, grows donor-invested funds, and manages the budget while ensuring that all decisions and actions align with PPCF’s vision, mission, values, and goals. The CEO helps develop the priorities, strategies, programmatic architecture and sector alignment to provide vision, direction, inspiration and motivation necessary for the Foundation’s success. The CEO creates a collaborative and transparent environment. The CEO is responsible for developing policies and procedures, general administration and staffing, and represents the Foundation to various constituencies. Essential Job Functions ● Ensure the organization’s financial stability, sustainability, viability, and solvency. ● Facilitate positive relationships and be visible in the community. Hold informational meetings, attend community events and stay connected to stakeholders. Seek out opportunities to represent the Foundation on panel discussions, community presentations, etc. ● Identify and strategically determine the Foundation’s role in making an effective impact on the community. ● Take a leadership role in The Philanthropy Collective. Leverage resources and partners to realize the goal of the Collective being the hub for philanthropic activity and community impact in the Pikes Peak Region. ● Responsible for educating, organizing, and reporting to the Board. ● Champion the Foundation’s culture and manage the organizational development. Ensure staff understands and performs their roles, retain and develop staff, support organization’s values, and handle human resources needs. ● As President of the Pikes Peak Real Estate Foundation, oversee the partnership between this entity and the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. ● Develop the annual strategic plan in collaboration with the Board and create an organizational plan to achieve desired results. ● In collaboration with the VP of Finance and Operations, develop operating budget and ensure healthy financial performance. ● Ensure financial stability by overseeing proactive fundraising efforts and asset development. ● Give quarterly key performance indicator updates to the board of trustees including fundraising goals and clearly explain implemented and proposed strategies to accomplish said goals. ● Oversee marketing and communication. Ensure a comprehensive marketing plan is developed with goals of increasing and enhancing public understanding and involvement with PPCF, assuring the Foundation is seen as a leader in philanthropy, and building key community relationships. Internal (Organizational) Leadership Provide the vision, direction, inspiration and motivation necessary to ensure the Foundation’s success. • Mission Stewardship: Work with the Board and staff to define the Foundation’s mission, communicate it effectively within the Foundation, ensure that it serves continuously as an inspiration and guide and execute it. • Board Relations: Work with the Board to help ensure that it is properly constituted and trained to conduct effective governance. • Values and Ethical Standards Management: Work with the Board and staff to ensure adoption of and adherence to appropriate values and ethical standards in all Foundation business. • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Work with Board and staff to embody these concepts in all areas of Foundation operations and leadership. • Identity Management: Work with the Board and staff to ensure proper care and development of the Foundation’s history, culture, reputation and image. • Strategic Management: Provide leadership for PPCF which includes developing, articulating and implementing a strategic plan. Make decisions that result in efficient and effective Foundation functioning. • Staff Management: Ensure that staff are properly selected, supported and guided and that their professional development is nurtured. Embrace a collaborative and transparent environment in which staff is accountable and share a commitment to excellence of team and organizational goals. • Financial Management: Work with the Board and staff to develop asset investment management and financial administration strategies and systems that are effective and aligned with the Foundation’s vision/mission and ensure that such strategies and systems are implemented successfully. • Programmatic Management: Work with the Board and staff to develop programming, grant making and grant management strategies and systems that are effective and aligned with the Foundation’s vision/mission and ensure that such strategies and systems are implemented successfully. • Legal Issues Management: Work with the Board and staff to develop legal strategies and systems that are effective and aligned with the Foundation’s vision/mission and ensure that such strategies and systems are implemented successfully. • Accountability and Evaluation Management: Work with the Board and staff to establish accountability standards and systems that track the Foundation’s effectiveness and impact. External Leadership Contribute to the dialogue, vision and direction of the pertinent global, national or local communities for the fields of the Foundation’s focus areas and to the field of philanthropy. • Visionary Leadership: Contribute to the vision and thought leadership of the field of philanthropy and communicate this vision. • Partnership Management: Work collaboratively with other private and/or public funders and grantees for greater social impact. • Education and Public Engagement: Help shape the agenda and decision making of government and other external stakeholders. Attract new and diverse donors, increase responsiveness, and expand donor base. • Issue-Area Visionary Leadership: Contribute to the vision and thought leadership in the Foundation’s focus area(s) and communicate this vision. Serve as the spokesperson and advocate for PPCF, convening, educating and enhancing philanthropies engagement. • Marketing and Public Relations: Ensure development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan which increases and enhances public understanding and involvement with PPCF to assure that the Foundation is seen as a leader in philanthropy. Represent PPCF at community events. • Communications and Marketing: Assist with coordination and oversight of external communications and visibility on behalf of PPCF; Developing, with the Executive Team, Board and staff, a meaningful and powerful messaging and marketing plan; Building key community relationships to maintain and elevate the Foundation through written articles, public speaking and oversight of social media outreach. • External Programs: Work closely with Executive Director of Pikes Peak Real Estate Foundation on management of organization’s real estate assets, to include Venetucci Farm, Aspen Valley Ranch, and Fountain Hills. Master’s Degree preferred in nonprofit management, communications or public affairs, MBA, or other related area. ● Minimum of ten years of experience, to include executive leadership and management positions; experience in community foundation industry a plus. Competencies ● Knowledge of philanthropy, fundraising, community development, grant making, and community foundation roles and operations. Proven record of said knowledge. ● Proven ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with board members, staff members, and key stakeholders ● Understanding of government regulations for community foundations ● Ability to lead alignment with organizational values ● Knowledge of community and nonprofit needs and initiatives ● Understanding of legal and tax techniques for transfers of wealth ● Executive presence ● Strategic thinking ● Collaboration/partnership ● Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills ● High energy, enthusiastic and hard working ● Communication ● Public speaking ● Decision making ● Governance ● Management ● Organizational development ● Personal and professional development ● Planning and vision setting Work Environment Ability to work within a team and cooperatively with several other foundations in the Philanthropy Collective. Salary Range $150,000 to $200,000. PPCF offers a competitive benefits package.
