Job Description: 
As an integral part of the Foundation team, the Communications Specialist applies analysis, writing, and editorial skills to identify and share the message and priorities of The Rees-Jones Foundation to outside networks of nonprofit partners and peer funders, and an internal audience of Foundation board and staff stakeholders.

The Communications Specialist works across disciplines and platforms to provide website management and content creation, lead in publication editing and design, seek opportunities to showcase grantmaking via video and other digital media forms, and engage in community and philanthropy sector outreach. In collaboration with Grantmaking and Insights colleagues, this role applies editorial and communication production skills to articulate and amplify significant Foundation processes, outcomes, and illustrative narratives of the Foundation’s grantmaking into written content that populates communication platforms such as website blogs, annual reports, press releases, internal reports, and other platforms. This content informs external and internal stakeholders of the Foundation’s priorities and initiatives. This role also maintains communication policies and standards of the Foundation to ensure a consistent quality of messaging.

The Communications Specialist is committed to the advancement of the philanthropic interests and philosophy of The Rees-Jones Foundation and its founders. The Communications Specialist must be of high moral character, exhibit sound judgment, and represent the Foundation’s values with compassion and empathy.

Foundation Overview

Founded in 2006 by Jan and Trevor Rees-Jones, The Rees-Jones Foundation is a Dallas-based private foundation that works with non-profit organizations, in North Texas and in international settings, with the vision that the love of Christ is experienced in tangible ways by those who are disadvantaged or who are suffering spiritually, physically, or emotionally.

The Communications Specialist is part of the Foundation team which is collaborative in its approach to grantmaking, discerning issue area and funding insights, and communicating the philanthropic priorities and funding outcomes of the Foundation with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
-Produce and publish content, mostly written, that provide a depth of insight into the philanthropic mission, priorities, and initiatives of The Rees-Jones Foundation in a way that is accessible to external and internal stakeholders. This includes an annual summary of the Foundation’s grantmaking.
-Manage the Foundation’s website, including content development, management, design, and scheduling; and identifying website trends and performance insights to guide website optimization.
-Manage the Foundation’s visual identity in print and digital communications to ensure consistency and alignment with the priorities and spirit of the Foundation. This includes overseeing the Foundation’s photo, video, and other collateral needs to support the Foundation’s website, print publications, and digital assets.
-Collaborate with the Vice President of Grants and the Grants Manager to maintain and update the grant-seeker experience for clarity and ease of use.
-When needed, identify photography, video production, graphic design, and print vendors who can assist as needed in creating content, and successfully manage working relationships with them.

Education and Professional Strengths:
-Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning. Three years of professional experience is also required.

-Editorial judgement and commitment to accuracy
-Story-telling and technical skill with communications platforms
-Ability to relate to a broad range of constituents
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
-Superior research skills
-Self-starter passionate about developing creative content relevant for grantees, peer constituents, and other stakeholders

Competencies:
-Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
-Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
-Experience with Salesforce
-Experience in web development using WordPress, HTML, and CSS
