About Knapp Community Care Foundation
The Knapp Community Care Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the Rio Grande Valley’s Mid-Valley community. Since its establishment in 2013, the foundation has focused on funding partner organizations that play a vital role in improving and sustaining residents' long-term health and well-being, with a strong emphasis on addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH). To date, the foundation has distributed more than $54 million in grant funding, supporting a wide range of health-related initiatives.
About The Job
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Grants and Programs leads Knapp Community Care Foundation’s (KCCF) grantmaking programs, assessment of the foundation’s work and investments, community impact activities, and strategic initiatives. The position is responsible for leveraging research, data, and community insights to shape KCCF's strategy, monitor progress, and maximize impact.
Key Position Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
• Serve as a key advisor to the CEO, ensuring that KCCF’s approach to grantmaking and community engagement prioritizes strong community relationships
• Actively participate in developing organizational goals and strategies
• Provide leadership to organizational process optimization efforts and technology enhancements for improved management, impact, learning, and reporting
• Staff the Grant & Community Development Committee of the Board
• Prepare reports for the board and other groups as requested and necessary
• Work with the CEO to help equip board members with the tools to make excellent funding recommendations and decisions
Grantmaking & Community Impact
• Ensure that grants are distributed with integrity and intentionality to benefit the Mid-Valley service area in highly impactful ways that achieve KCCF’s philanthropic goals.
• Provide information, technical assistance, and clarification of KCCF’s funding priorities to grant seekers to facilitate transparent application and grantmaking processes
• Develop and implement community-informed and data-driven strategies to achieve desired impact, assuring effective utilization of resources and approaches
• Participate at the forefront of shaping dialogue about community needs
• Ensure that KCCF goals are met through programmatic efforts, including grants, convenings, non-profit capacity building, research, and evaluation
• Develop and sustain relationships within the community to address community issues and seek shared solutions to leverage resources
• Oversee long-term programmatic initiatives in strategic areas and ensure that metrics and outcomes are appropriately measured to inform KCCF and stakeholders
Learning and Evaluation
• Implement and sustain a learning and evaluation strategy for the Foundation’s investments and activities
• Direct research, data collection, and analysis to inform strategic decisions and assess the effectiveness and impact of the KCCF’s work
• Understand technology needs and software interconnectivity required to monitor and track relevant trends
• Champion a learning culture
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree (preferred) in public health, public administration, social science, or another related field
• Minimum of 7 years experience in philanthropy, non-profit management, program development, evaluation, research, assessment
• Proven managerial skills in supervising and leading teams
• Experience working collaboratively and effectively with internal and external stakeholders
• Experience presenting data and research findings clearly and concisely, with an appreciation for the visual representation of data and storytelling
• Excellent writing, speaking, and public presentation skills
• Strong computer literacy skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, database applications
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
