The Family First Prevention Services Act

PSW Member Casey Family Programs recently conducted a briefing and discussion on The Family First Prevention Services Act - a landmark change to child welfare financing that could have a major positive effect on the lives of children. The new legislation focuses more on prevention and providing family supports and community resources while viewing foster care as an intervention of last resort. Casey Family Programs is an operating foundation working to reduce the number of children in foster care. They are beginning to develop a 2-year strategy that will focus on helping with implementation of the new law.

The State of the Gulf of Mexico - 2018 TEGG Spring Meeting

At TEGG’s spring meeting April 27 at the Harte Research Institute (HRI) for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Executive Director Larry McKinney, Ph.D. gave an overview of the work of HRI as well as a report on the health of the Gulf. At HRI, Dr. McKinney, leads an interdisciplinary team that integrates science, policy and socio-economic expertise to assure an economically and environmentally sustainable Gulf of Mexico. He has explored and studied the world's largest gulf for fifty-plus years. He received his doctorate from Texas A&M University in 1976.
