For people in the early stages of their community foundation careers, as well as more experienced staff who have not had formal community foundation training and would like a review. This course is applicable to individuals from Community Foundations of all sizes.

Overview:
New community foundations staff and board members often find the most difficult challenge is understanding precisely what a community foundation is. Community Foundation Fundamentals is designed to help staff and volunteers quickly comprehend organizational essentials. This two-day course, created and led by experienced leaders in the community foundation field, covers topics including:
 
  • history of the community foundation movement
  • basic information on governance, resource development and donor relations
  • key legal and legislative issues and information on grantmaking
  • community leadership and fiduciary responsibilities 
This course also provides valuable resources and enables participants to establish new professional contacts.

Meeting Location
All sessions of the Community Foundation Fundamentals workshop will be held at the Mabel Peters Caruth Center located within the Communities Foundation of Texas at 5500 Caruth Haven Lane in Dallas. Continental breakfast, lunch and breaks will be provided both days. Dinner options include dining on your own OR joining new colleagues for a group dinner at one of Dallas’ many restaurants.
 
Hotel Accommodations
A block of rooms is available at the Hyatt house Dallas / Lincoln Park, located at 8221 N. Central Expressway, Dallas, which is directly across the street from the Communities Foundation of Texas. The room rate is $121/night for a deluxe studio king suite. Reservations must be made no later than Friday, February 19, 2016 in order to receive this special room rate. Transportation
By air:
Dallas is served by two airports, Dallas Love Field (DAL) and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
 
Ground:
Hyatt house offers complimentary limited shuttle service available Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 10:00 am and 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm within a three mile radius of the hotel. Please note, neither DAL nor DFW airport is located within this three mile radius.
 
Taxi, shuttle or rental cars are all available from both airports.
 
Parking
Hyatt house offers self-parking in a secured gated parking garage for $14 per day for hotel guest and visitors. Communities Foundation of Texas offers ample surface parking immediately adjacent to their building.
