On April 30, the Mary E. Bivins Foundation awarded $145,000 in scholarships to 21 area students. The scholarships are granted to students who meet the program criteria and are seeking a degree that prepares them to preach the Christian religion. Scholars are selected through a process that includes an application, a written essay describing their calling to ministry, letters of reference and an interview in front of a committee that includes board members and local ministers.
